OLATHE, Kan./September 12, 2008 —Heart to Heart International Inc., a leading global humanitarian organization, announced today that it will honor Rotary International and Ed Pogue with the Heart of Humanity and Power of One Award, respectively, at its upcoming gala.
Rotary and Mr. Pogue will be showcased at the organization’s 2008 “Celebration of the Heart” event, which takes place at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17, at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center in Kansas City, Mo.
“We are thrilled to honor these fine examples of humanitarian service at our annual gala,” said Dr. Gary Morsch, Heart to Heart’s president and founder. “Without the support of these honorees and thousands more like them, our scope of services around the world would be radically diminished.”
Rotary International is the world’s first service organization and supports more than 1.2 million members around the world, encouraging them to put service before self. Rotarians provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and build goodwill and peace around the world. It is not surprising, then, to know that a group of Rotarians helped found Heart to Heart International following a local Rotary Club meeting in Olathe, Kan. Since 1992, Rotarians around the world have opened important doors and secured critical funding for Heart to Heart, enabling the organization to do more for people in need than it could by itself.
Ed Pogue found his purpose in community service. A banker by trade and a Rotarian by choice, Mr. Pogue lived out his values in the business community. His impact can be seen in places like Salina, Kan., where students at “The City” youth center, families visiting Rolling Hills Wildlife Museum and the patients at the Kay Pogue Hospice Center have all been touched by his gift of raising community support for worthy causes; and in San Francisco, Panama, where he led Rotary projects to care for thousands of indigenous people. Mr. Pogue has also been a Heart to Heart benefactor, serving one term on its Board of Directors and continuing as an advisor to its leadership team.
Attendees of the gala will also enjoy a night of “Jazz in the City” with four-time Grammy Award® winner Dianne Reeves. Tickets to the event and sponsorships are available online at www.hearttoheart.org/celebration or by calling Heart to Heart at 913-764-5200.
