Europe/Central Asia: Tajikistan

Building Capacity:

Concerned Mother in Tajikistan

Through our Physicians With Heart partnership, we are enhancing maternal health and primary care in Tajikistan through vital medical-training initiatives. Recently, a fire destroyed the country’s only medical school and our health partners are working to restore the school to prominence in the region.

Increasing Access:

Medicines distributed in Tajikistan

We are working with humanitarian partners in Tajikistan to provide ongoing medical aid. In 2007, we organized an airlift that delivered $6.4 million worth of medicines, instruments and supplies to 10 hospitals throughout the country.

Strengthening Communities:

Through a grant from the U.S. State Department, Heart to Heart facilitated the reconstruction of a shower facility at a boarding school in southern Tajikistan. Not only is the facility a dramatic improvement in sanitation for the students of the school, but it also enhances the hygiene education they are receiving.
