Heart to Heart International is proud to have worked with BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company), a leading, global medical technology company, as a “trusted partner” since 1993. BD’s purpose of advancing the world of health naturally aligns with the mission of HHI: expanding access to care and responding in times of disaster.
BD has donated more than $20 million in cash funding and medical product to HHI over the past 30 years. In fact, BD is such an essential partner to HHI’s mission and programs, the company was awarded HHI’s top annual award, the Heart for Humanity Award, in 2013.
One of the many ways BD and Heart to Heart International work together to achieve their missions is through the Point of Care, Enhancing Clinical Effectiveness (PoCECE) program. This program provides free and charitable clinics, which provide care to underserved and vulnerable populations in the U.S., with essential point of care diagnostic testing tools that enable clinicians to evaluate patients on site and receive diagnostic test results, and many times begin treatment, before patients leave the clinic. Started in 2017, the program is implemented by HHI in conjunction with the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (NAFC) and funded by BD. BD has invested more than $1 million in cash and product donations to the program to date, providing diagnostic equipment and training to 19 clinics in 17 states.
HHI is also able to provide critical medical supplies to health clinics in low-resource communities around the globe as a result of BD’s generosity.
BD and HHI have also worked together for more than a decade to provide BD employees with meaningful opportunities to volunteer their time and talents to help improve health for people living in resource-poor communities across the world. BD employees have traveled with HHI to complete healthcare related service projects in Haiti, Papua New Guinea, Cameroon, and Puerto Rico. When the COVID-19 pandemic halted all travel in 2020, BD employees pivoted to volunteer as trainers for HHI’s newly developed Infection Prevention & Control online training sessions.
BD has also been a long partner of HHI’s hygiene kit building program, PowrServ. Through the generous support of BD, its employees have assembled thousands of hygiene kits that have been distributed to tens of thousands of people in need, to support their recovery after experiencing disasters or crises.
The company’s dedication to improving healthcare access and strengthening the capacity of health systems to care for all patients, especially the most vulnerable, has been demonstrated time and again with its support of many of HHI’s programs. We are tremendously grateful for the support and commitment from BD. Our partnership is truly creating a world of better health for all.
