MathWorks Donates $1 Million to Heart to Heart International

Contribution will kick off HHI fundraising campaign

MathWorks, the leading developer of mathematical computing software for engineers and scientists, has generously donated $1 million to support Heart to Heart International’s 2021 fundraising campaign. The gift will be used to galvanize HHI supporters into raising a total of $3.2 million to strengthen the organization’s expanding humanitarian programs.

The gift from MathWorks launches the new fundraising campaign, Building Capacity, which will support HHI’s growing humanitarian programs, including distributing health resources, conducting training, engaging volunteers and responding to disasters.

HHI elevated its level of response internationally, domestically, and in its hometown of Kansas City in 2020. Thanks to its expansive new headquarters, the nonprofit was prepared and well-positioned to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. HHI’s work ensured healthcare workers received PPE to keep them safe, clinics received critical medications and supplies necessary for the health of their patients, and low-resource community members had access to free COVID-19 testing and vaccines. These humanitarian initiatives impacted hundreds of thousands of people throughout the United States and the world.

“We’re so grateful for this gift from MathWorks,” said Kim Carroll, Heart to Heart International CEO. “Two years ago, we increased our capacity physically with our new building, and now we’re raising money to increase our programmatic capacity. With this generous support, we continue improving health access and are able to help even more people. This is such an exciting time for this organization.”

Headquartered in Lenexa, Kansas, Heart to Heart International (HHI) is a global humanitarian organization focused on improving access to health. Since its inception in 1992, HHI has delivered medical aid and supplies worth $2 billion to more than 130 countries, including within the United States. HHI responds to natural disasters both domestically and internationally by supplying medical relief and mobilizing volunteers. The organization is a 4-star Charity Navigator charity and is on the “Philanthropy 400.”

“A cornerstone of our Social Mission is to support our global communities, particularly during times of crisis,” said MathWorks Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Jeanne O’Keefe. “We chose to partner with Heart to Heart International based on its record and reputation for providing critical response to disasters and other human health emergencies, most recently the coronavirus pandemic. Through HHI, we are confident that our financial support will help those communities with the most urgent of needs.
