In a one-day event on May 26 that was billed as “Have a Heart for Ukraine,” members of the Kansas City community came to the Power & Light district to assemble hygiene kits that we will be sending to help the people of Ukraine. The Have a Heart for Ukraine event was open to all families, businesses, residents and individuals who had a desire to volunteer and give back to those in need. Together, more than 150 community members assembled almost 4,245 hygiene kits.
One man drove from Lawrence to Kansas City after seeing the event on the news because he wanted to do something tangible with his hands to help those people suffering in Ukraine.
A couple moms brought their kids on the first day of summer break so they could do something good for others during the day and then have a sleepover with friends that night.
Even Morgan Mobley, a reporter from KCTV5, reporter got in on the action after filming a morning news spot. She spent time folding washcloths and said it was the best part of her day and way to “practice what you preach!”
Thank you to everyone who came out to assemble these kits. They will be sent to Ukraine and the surrounding countries to help Ukrainians displaced within their own country and those refugees who have fled.
