August’s partner spotlight is Calmoseptine. Calmoseptine’s relationship with Heart to Heart International began with its first donation of Calmoseptine Ointment in 2005. Since 2010, Calmoseptine has donated to HHI every single year, and its product has been distributed throughout the world to people in need.
Calmoseptine Ointment was developed 70 years ago by a pharmacist as a diaper rash ointment. Since then, Calmoseptine Ointment has been proven to be an excellent moisture barrier ointment, used by patients and healthcare professionals for many conditions involving the skin of both adults and children.
The ointment is superb at protecting, soothing and promoting healing from a variety of skin irritations and rashes that can cause extreme discomfort for people.
“In post-disaster situations, a lot of skin irritation and rashes can occur as a result of prolonged exposure to moisture, wet clothing, diapers, etc,” said Agustina Boehringer, HHI Chief Medical Officer. “Having the barrier-type ointment of Calmoseptine on hand in these types of situations is extremely helpful in preventing or minimizing those problems for patients.”
Calmoseptine has generously donated more than five tons of its ointment over the years to HHI. That is enough ointment to provide treatment to more than 1 million people around the world.
HHI has shipped Calmoseptine to 19 partner organizations providing healthcare in Cambodia, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Nigeria, Poland, Ukraine and the United States.
Calmoseptine has also been shipped in response to Hurricanes Eta and Iota in Honduras and the Ukraine crisis. In response to the Ukraine crisis, the ointment has been distributed to hospitals, clinics and pharmacies in more than eight cities in Ukraine, including in areas under direct attack by Russia.
Heart to Heart International is tremendously grateful for the long partnership with Calmoseptine. The company’s generosity continues to make a difference in under-resourced communities, post-disaster situations, and even in a war zone like Ukraine. Thank you for your support over the years!
