Flooding in Kentucky and St. Louis

Record-setting rainfall in parts of Kentucky and the St. Louis metro region has caused historic flooding and led to deaths and destroyed homes and communities.

HHI’s advance disaster response team is in Kentucky meeting with health clinics and other partners to determine the needs on the ground and how we can best help. HHI has already sent thousands of hygiene kits to those affected by the flooding in Kentucky and St. Louis, and the team is working to respond with more aid.

Ukraine Crisis Update

To help fill in the gaps in the healthcare system caused by Russian attacks and refugee movement, HHI sent the first three of 15 mobile medical clinics to Ukraine. These clinics were fully stocked with medical supplies and equipment when they arrived. The pictures below show the clinics in use mere days after their arrival in the country. HHI has also sent an additional $12 million in medicines and medical aid that is currently being distributed throughout Ukraine by partners.

Working with partners, including The Gorta Group and Step-In, Heart to Heart International has been able to safely distribute medicines, medical supplies and hygiene kits to locations throughout Ukraine.

Hygiene Kits making a difference in Ukraine

The distribution of Hygiene Kits is one of the ways HHI is responding to the crisis in Ukraine. These kits provide basic, but essential, hygiene items to people who have been forced to flee their homes because of the fighting. As of August 1, 2022, HHI has sent more than 90,000 hygiene kits, both in Ukraine to Internally Displaced People and to refugees in the countries surrounding Ukraine.

Ukraine may not be the top news story anymore,
but the need remains just as strong.

Sri Lanka

At the request of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington D.C., and under the guidance of the Sri Lankan ambassador, HHI has donated almost $1 million worth of urgent medical supplies to the people of Sri Lanka. In coordination with the Ministry of Health in Sri Lanka, this medical aid reached Sri Lanka on July 13 and an additional shipment worth $6.6 million is en route now. Read more!

New record for Hygiene Kits assembled in a year!

On July 26, we set a new record for the amount of Hygiene Kits assembled in a year – and we are only halfway through! This milestone could never have been achieved without the amazing dedication of our incredible volunteers, including community members who came out to help assemble kits at community events at our headquarters, in the KC metro, and throughout the country. Every kit represents one person, and all of those people are helped because of your efforts. Thank you!

Your group can assemble Hygiene Kits!

Did you know that Heart to Heart International offers unique, philanthropic team-building events for your company or organization where participants can make a difference in the world through the assembly of hygiene kits?

Groups can come out to our headquarters in Lenexa, Kansas, or we can bring a hygiene kit assembly event to your workplace or conference. In July, we had several of these events, including a volleyball team, coworkers from Commerce Bank and from Shook, Hardy and Bacon, and first-year students from Kansas City University.

Partner Spotlight: Calmoseptine

Calmoseptine’s relationship with Heart to Heart International began with its first donation of Calmoseptine Ointment in 2005. Since 2010, Calmoseptine has donated to HHI every single year, and its product has been distributed throughout the world to people in need.

The ointment is superb at protecting, soothing and promoting healing from a variety of skin irritations and rashes that can occur regularly and especially in disaster zones. Calmoseptine has generously donated more than five tons of its ointment over the years to HHI – that is enough ointment to provide treatment to more than 1 million people around the world!
