Millions of Americans struggle to manage chronic health conditions due to limited healthcare access. Traveling long distances, appointment wait times, and delayed test results all create significant obstacles to appropriate care.
Heart to Heart International (HHI) is breaking down these barriers by equipping free and safety-net clinics with on-site laboratory technology. This allows for same-day testing and diagnosis, ultimately improving patient care and outcomes.
The program is made possible through donations and grants, including a collaborative grant with BD, Henry Schein Cares, National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics, and HHI.
One clinic benefiting from this program is San Jose Clinic, located in Houston, Texas. Serving the community for over 100 years, this clinic provides comprehensive healthcare services with a focus on those with limited access.
Selected as a grant recipient, San Jose Clinic received laboratory equipment and technology that was installed in May. HHI staff and a BD volunteer trained clinic staff on proper use of the equipment.
On-site labs will alleviate burdens and improve patient outcomes. Patients won’t need to travel for testing or wait weeks for results. They’ll receive results within the same appointment, allowing for immediate diagnosis, treatment planning, and a faster path to better health.
HHI will continue to monitor and provide technical support to San Jose Clinic for a year, ensuring a smooth transition and maximizing the impact of this program.
