HHI Responding to Hurricane Beryl

Hurricane Beryl, the first major hurricane of the 2024 season, took a devastating path through the Caribbean, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Beryl became the earliest Category 5 storm in history in the Atlantic, then continued on as a Category 4 storm, unleashing fierce winds, storm surge, and torrential rain, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. It made landfall near Matagorda, Texas, as a Category 1 storm, plunging more than 1.5 million Texans into darkness and causing dangerous flooding.

Heart to Heart International’s Response

Heart to Heart International’s Disaster Response Team is taking action. An assessment team deployed to Jamaica to meet with local partners and government officials and understand the most pressing needs. Hygiene kits, medicine, and medical aid are being prepared for immediate shipment. About 5,000 hygiene kits were shipped to partners to help communities affected by the storm in Jamaica. Another 5,000 kits are on their way to Texas, and additional aid is prepped and ready to ship as soon as further needs are determined.
