HHI’s Response to Marshalltown, Iowa

Heart to Heart International was stationed in Marshalltown, Iowa, assessing needs of those affected by the tornadoes that ripped through the town on July 19th. The hospital took a direct hit and HHl sprung into action within an hour of initial reports of damaged buildings and injuries.

HHI’s Mobile Medical Unit helped fill the gap with medicines, supplies, lab capability and exam rooms. HHI Volunteer Nurse Chelsi took care of a man who was accidentally hit with a chainsaw and EMT K.C. helped console patients & gave others Tetanus shots.  Fortunately, the HHI’s MMU and volunteer medical staff are on site to treat lacerations, punctures, and other injuries.

The HHI Disaster Response Team took action by delivering PowrServ hygiene kits, bottled water and home clean-up kits to people of Marshalltown. Many residents were so busy clearing debris and repairing the damage they didn’t have time to come see us.  The staff and volunteers loaded up trucks and delivered aid directly to those in need.

PowrServ personal hygiene kits that were assembled by BD, Ecolab, FedEx and Thrivent employees are helping victims too! Often this type of work results in injuries and hygiene kits provide essential items that many don’t have after a disaster.

Special thanks to AbbVie, volunteers and our donors
for supporting this disaster response.
