Hurricane Helene Response

Hurricane Helene, a rapidly intensifying storm, is expected to make landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region on the evening of Thursday, September 26th. The storm is forecast to make landfall as a Category 3 or 4 hurricane, bringing with it significant threats of heavy rainfall, strong winds, and storm surge.

Heart to Heart International’s Response:

Heart to Heart International’s Disaster Response Team has been closely monitoring the storm’s path and has reached out to 60 partners and health facilities in Florida to offer support. An advance team will depart on Friday to assess the situation, coordinate with local partners and identify areas of greatest need. A medical team will follow closely behind, deploying with the Mobile Medical Unit either Friday or Saturday to join forces with the advance team.

Shipments of Aid:

In anticipation of the storm’s impact, Heart to Heart International has sent its first shipment of hygiene kits and personal protective equipment (PPE) to our longstanding partners at Biguns Hope in Florida. We have a history of collaboration with Biguns Hope, having previously worked together during the Hurricane Idalia and Hurricane Debby relief efforts.

Looking Ahead:

As Hurricane Helene approaches, Heart to Heart International remains committed to providing essential aid and support to those affected by the storm. We will continue to monitor the situation and work closely with partners and authorities in the region to determine the most effective ways to assist impacted communities.
