Instant Answers, Immediate Care: Wildflower Healthcare’s New On-Site Lab

Wildflower Healthcare in St. Augustine, Florida, has consistently sought ways to better serve its patients. A key part of their service is mobile outreach, addressing transportation challenges in the region. They also have a strong hospital partnership, and offer women’s care, including new prenatal services.

Expanding Services, Expanding Impact

Wildflower Healthcare has recently added a significant advancement in their capabilities: an on-site laboratory. Members of Heart to Heart International’s Laboratory program team installed the lab in September through our collaborative program with BD, Henry Schein Cares, and National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics. This new lab equips Wildflower Healthcare with the ability to provide rapid, on-site diagnostic testing, empowering clinicians to make informed decisions and provide immediate care. Through the program, four staff members received training on twelve new POC test systems, including tests for hemoglobin A1c, lipid panel, pregnancy, HIV, Hepatitis C, and COVID-19. This means immediate results and treatment, all within a single visit—a game-changer for patients and their care providers.

The Impact on Prenatal Care

The clinic reports that the new lab is already making a difference, particularly for their prenatal program. The ability to provide immediate pregnancy test results allows patients to quickly access vital prenatal care, sometimes receiving their first positive result at the clinic. This ensures patients receive timely and appropriate follow-up care and can begin critical prenatal care immediately.

Heart to Heart International is proud to partner with Wildflower Healthcare in providing these essential resource to the St. Augustine community.
