Come along with us on the German Marshall Fund’s visit to HHI and other KC-area organizations as they discuss ways to help the people of Ukraine.
February marked two years since the start of the Ukraine war. Heart to Heart International has been dedicated to providing aid to the people of Ukraine throughout these two years. Last month, we also welcomed representatives from the German Marshall Fund (GMF) as part of the organization’s “Whistlestops for Ukraine” initiative.
GMF President Heather Conley met with HHI CEO Kim Carroll and our Disaster Response and Hygiene Kit programs to learn more about HHI’s medical aid response and discuss how the war in Ukraine affects local, national, and global communities. The HHI team shared stories and photos from the 16 portable medical clinics we’ve sent to Ukraine as well as the $197 million in medicines and more than 180,000 hygiene kits.

Türkiye/Syria Earthquake: 1 Year Later
One year ago, on February 6, 2023, a devastating earthquake struck Türkiye and Syria. Heart to Heart International responded swiftly, delivering more than $1.3 million in aid, including critical medications, hygiene kits and portable medical clinics.
These resources are making a real difference for the millions affected by the disaster. Our donated container clinics are treating more than 1,500 patients monthly, and the hygiene kits are vital for those without access to basic sanitation. We’re grateful for the dedication of our on-the-ground partners in ensuring our aid reaches those who need it most.
Struggling to afford healthcare shouldn’t mean waiting for diagnoses and treatment. Grassroots City Free Clinic in Fairfield, California, is striving to change this!
HHI, along with partners, provided a crucial grant to equip the clinic with on-site laboratory technology. This allows for faster diagnoses and treatment, like helping a refugee receive same-day results for a heart condition.
HHI Disaster Response Team member Maddy Langemach (above) represented Heart to Heart International on apanel at the Action on Disaster Relief conference in February. She discussed our disaster response work, the WHO Emergency Medical Team initiative, and the intersection of health and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) responses.
The conference provided valuable insights and a chance to showcase HHI’s expertise in the disaster response field. Opportunities like this enhance HHI’s ability to effectively respond to disasters and provide essential medical and humanitarian aid.
