Heart to Heart International sends thousands of hygiene kits to California to aid those affected by devastating wildfires.
(October 31, 2019) California has been battling wildfires in the north and south of the state. The hurricane-force winds and dry conditions are causing the fires to spread rapidly.
The state forestry and fire protection agency Cal Fire said 10 fires had collectively consumed more than 144 square miles in recent days. At least 36,000 Californians were under evacuation orders, and more were coming.
Southern California remains under “extreme red flag warning” as winds fanned at least three major blazes. And as Santa Ana winds continue to threaten the southern part of the state, Southern California Edison warned that more than 318,000 customers could lose power in an effort to prevent its equipment from sparking wildfires.
Heart to Heart International works with partners throughout the state and has been reaching out to them to determine the needs of those affected.
Today, a shipment of over 4,000 hygiene kits and 3,000 children’s blanket kits was sent to Petaluma and Windsor, California, for distribution to those impacted by the fires.
