Rima Hassoun lived in the northern countryside of Jisr al-Shughour in Syria. Her story shows the profound impact and importance of medical and humanitarian aid after disasters and crises. A Life in Struggle:
At the age of 63, Rima found herself in a difficult position. As a widow with no one to rely on, she struggled to make ends meet in a small rented two-room house under harsh living conditions. The absence of a stable income source made her daily existence a constant battle. On top of that, Rima suffered from chronic diseases, including high blood pressure and high cholesterol, which had taken a toll on her health for the past five years. The financial burden of her medications became overwhelming, and the inability to consistently acquire them posed a serious threat to her well-being.
A Glimmer of Hope:
During a routine check-up at the local hospital’s inpatient clinic, Rima’s life took an unexpected turn. To her surprise and relief, the doctors provided her with a treatment prescription that included two crucial medications: Amlodipine and Atorvastatin. These life-saving drugs had been part of a large shipment of donated medicines and supplies from Heart to Heart International and had been distributed by our partner Multifaith Alliance. The medicines were dispensed from the hospital pharmacy on a monthly basis. The best part? They were completely free of charge. With her health stabilized, Rima experienced a renewed sense of hope and resilience. Her smile returned, radiating warmth and gratitude.
A Lifeline of Care:
The provision of essential medications not only transformed Rima’s life; it symbolized a compassionate community that cares for its members. The generosity extended by the hospital, doctors and pharmacists became a lifeline for Rima and others in similar situations.
