Over the last month, a barrage of severe weather, including powerful tornadoes and extensive flooding, has left a trail of destruction across numerous states in the South and Midwest. Tragically, at least 24 people have lost their lives across seven states: Arkansas, Kentucky, Georgia, Indiana, Missouri, Tennessee, and Mississippi. The relentless heavy rain led to record-breaking rainfall in Kentucky, which saw its highest four-day total ever recorded. And, Saturday marked an unprecedented ten consecutive days with tornado outbreaks in the United States, the earliest in the year the U.S. has hit that streak.
Weather experts have identified a potent combination of atmospheric factors contributing to the severity of these storms: daytime heating interacting with an unstable atmosphere, coupled with strong wind shear and a significant flow of moisture from the Gulf.

Our team is constantly monitoring storm systems and was prepared to respond swiftly as the extent of the damage became clear. We are now coordinating closely with our trusted partners across Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, Illinois, and Mississippi, all of which have been significantly impacted by major flooding and tornado outbreaks.

Mobilizing Aid for Survivors
In response to this widespread devastation and tragic loss of life, Heart to Heart International is mobilizing critical aid. Shipments of essential hygiene kits are already en route to provide comfort and support to survivors of both the tornadoes and the extensive flooding. Building upon our rapid response to earlier storms in February, we are also leveraging our existing networks to ensure that emergency relief supplies, along with crucial medicine and medical supplies, reach those most in need in the affected regions.
