Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States and worldwide. It can lead to devastating consequences if not detected early. Heart to Heart International is proud to support organizations like the Health and Hope Clinic in its mission to combat this growing health crisis.
Health and Hope Clinic is located in Escambia County, Florida, and provides free healthcare to the uninsured and medically underserved in their community. In June, our Access to Medicine program equipped the clinic with essential supplies, including sunscreen, gloves, and a pallet of assorted orthopedic supplies. These donations have proven to be incredibly helpful in their ongoing efforts to protect the community from skin cancer and provide necessary care for their community.
In early July, the clinic hosted a successful skin cancer prevention event, made possible in part by the sunscreen we provided. During the event:
- approximately 24 skin screenings were conducted
- 7 patients were identified as having suspicious lesions
- 11 biopsies were performed
- 2 actinic keratosis lesions were identified for further monitoring
Early detection is crucial in the fight against skin cancer, and these screenings represent a vital step in preventing the disease from progressing.
Beyond skin cancer prevention, the orthopedic supplies have also been a game-changer for the clinic’s patients. Many of their patients struggle to afford even basic medical equipment, so the clinic’s ability to provide essential equipment like knee compression sleeves and rehabilitation tools has significantly improved the quality of life for countless individuals.
To enhance their comprehensive eye care services, the Health and Hope Clinic has also incorporated Refresh tears into their offerings. This product provides much-needed relief for patients suffering from allergies or those exposed to harsh environmental conditions.
We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with the Health and Hope Clinic and support its vital work in the community. Together, we are making a tangible difference in the lives of people in Pensacola, Florida.
