The Power in hygiene kits

Heart to Heart International’s Hygiene Kit Program (formerly PowrServ) began with two purposes in mind: to enable team-building volunteer events and to provide hygiene kits for distribution to people in need. Companies and organizations assemble hygiene kits as team-building events, and the kits are then distributed after disasters, in low-resource communities, and wherever there is a need.

Because the program’s typical hygiene kit building events involve large numbers of people in one room working side by side, the COVID-19 pandemic initially created some challenges for the program.

But, we knew hygiene supplies were going to be desperately needed. So, the team worked with our on-staff medical expert and followed safety and health guidelines to design a socially distanced hygiene kit building space in our headquarters in Lenexa, Kansas.

Because of this, we have been able to continue assembling and distributing kits throughout this crisis. This week, we will be distributing our 70,000th kit. These kits have been distributed to homeless assistance groups, schools, nursing homes, health clinics and first responding organizations. The supplies have proved invaluable for people in vulnerable communities.

“To date 572 kits were distributed across our 6 counties. Our consumers were ecstatic. One lady sent a formal thank you note and stated that it was the nicest gift she had ever received! We had our staff drop them off at their homes so that we were further able to determine their well-being. … The lives of nearly 600 people were truly blessed.” – Deb Hobson, Executive Director, WILS

“Children Like Loni (CLL) is pleased to have partnered with Heart to Heart International by way of the Hope City Serve 2020 project. This collaborative partnership presented the opportunity to provide humanitarian aid to the community during these unprecedented times of COVID-19….Together with our community partners, Children Like Loni served 350 individuals with hygiene kits and PPE masks….The positive impact of this event was a step in the right direction as we collectively work to anticipate and address community needs during COVID-19. CLL continuously operates to assess client needs and coordinate high-impact service.” – Khiva Mackey, Executive Director, Children Like Loni
